SCION FR S SUPERCHARGER

SCION FR S SUPERCHARGER

Since the Scion FR-S debuted, people have been trying to milk more power out of it. FR-S owner Mark Sanew loved balanced chassis of his car and pretty body but lamented its linear defects. "I have a drag race lost a Ford F-250," he admits. Yes, it hurts.
Add punch to the 200-horsepower engine while the car is cheap fun raison d'être for expensive professional tuner, no drive swap, and no disturbance of the neutral handling with a sudden Turbo. Sanew chose instead an off-the-shelf Vortech supercharger kit for its smooth and linear power delivery. A recalibrated Perrin Performance ECU ended his $ 5,150-made package.
We pull up to a stoplight, turn in first, build the speed and reach of the clutch when the light changes. The 85-hp bump is generous but not turn the FR-S in a quarter-mile King. First-speed acceleration feels like a V-6 Ford Mustang - not snap your neck quickly, but much better than stock. Supercharger whine and blow-off valve sounds help mask metallic clatter of the boxer. Touch the speed limit at just past 7000 rpm, grab second and the FR-S maintains the acceleration as additional cylinders.
Do we prefer this Scion in stock? Yes. We know that there is a performance increase worth five grand on stickers? Not really; that the price in Nissan 370Z area. Is it too Sanew worth it? Hell, yes. "I'll never get smoked by an F-250 again," he says.
