    And no one should be surprised to learn that a lot of people. Even as early as this summer Audi PR was busy typing up press releases to trumpet the impressive growth of the company, with a good portion of the attraction of new customers through the A3. Mercedes-Benz has painted a similar story with the CLA, so it is clear that there is some merit to this recipe: fresh, premium positioning and a starting price of around thirty thousand US dollars.

    For me, that formula becomes much easier to understand if the wrapper sheet is irresistible, or at least quite unique. Before I was lent A3, I actually assumed that the CLA had a big leg about it.

    This new A3 has a clean design, to be sure, but for me it is just as impressive and convincing than that of his rival front-Benz driver. As I showed the little Audi to friends around Ann Arbor, MI, though, and talked with more than a handful of strangers concerned about the car, the overwhelming feedback I got was that the A3 is, to paraphrase, "gorgeous".
