Back in June, we reported that Top Gear was constructing what he hoped would become the world's fastest lawnmower, and had solicited the help of Honda and his British Touring Car Championship team partner Dynamics. Well, they finished the construction and resulting contraption is the average Mower. With a top speed estimated at over 130 kilometers per hour, should beat set by Bobby Cleveland and his race Snapper mower at Bonneville Salt Flats in September 2010 record of 96.529-mph, and take the cake as the fastest ever mower.
Let's start with the specifications: 109 horsepower, 309 pounds of weight in running order and 0-60 mph in four seconds. Numbers crazy, but maybe you'll be comforted that the mower is a Honda HF2620 name only, with a custom frame of 4130 chromoly, a 1,000 cc engine from a VTR Firestorm, a six-speed paddle-shifted, a suspension measure and the wheels of an ATV. The body was taken from the mower production, though.
Sure, you can cut the grass - at 15 mph, double the speed of a normal HF2620 - with two electric motors spinning wire-cutting steel 3 mm at 4000 rpm, but the bag has been redesigned to accommodate the fuel tank , a high capacity oil cooler and a secondary radiator. So much for that cut.
